Weather, Water, Energy 1-18-07

Really good and depressing study of chemicals in ancient corals gives us a pretty good idea of the impact of climate change, monsoons, and drought in Australia (with the idiot PM) and Indonesia going back centuries. Doesn't look good for the Aussies (with the idiot PM). . . . A recent survey shows that folks in DE are strongly in support of offshore wind power. (Survey found here.) The surveyers aren't sure what accounts for the support, but maybe it's just people waking up. I know some good, smart people in DE. . . . Dems showing some backbone and strategy on climate change issues? Well, Pelosi maybe figured out a way to get around idiot Rep. Dingell (D-General Motors) with a special committee on global warming and the House Dems are also looking at taking back some of the goodies that Big Oil's brib . . . contributions have bought them with the Repubs. Nothing done yet, but just the disappearance of the knee-jerk giveaways is one of the best results of the 2006 elections. (Of course, here the US car companies are, begging for government bailouts to pay for the work on energy options for their vehicles that they should have done years ago but waited until the Japanese now, of course, are about to hand them their asses. Don't do it, Dems. Let them dry up and blow away. Capitalism is all about "creative destruction." Let's destroy the US auto makers and let creativity renew itself in this country.) . . . Every good idea deserves a scam, right? Well, in Britain, they're already gearing up to deal with all the phony carbon offsetting schemes that are popping up. Good article to get you prepared and to help you find the real deals if you're so inclined. . . . Evangelicals trying to restore their claim on sense and stewarding the resources left them by God to care for, joining the climate change opponents. Don't worry, there are still a lot of burn-in-Hellers out there claiming using up God's creation for selfish purposes is just fine. I'm sure they're right. They have reservations for Eternity somewhere warm. Really warm.
