Friday Blogroll! On Friday!

Let's jump right in...

Digby
comments on the big news of the week, the Lamont-Lieberman debate. Seriously, how has it come to this? The media's favorite Democrat thinks the best way to win a primary is to act like a Republican and treat Democrats like little kids who just don't understand. As you would expect, Jane Hamsher has the best, most in-depth Lamont/Joementum coverage (FDL). But here's a question, Joe: you've already sold out Democrats (though the Boxers and Schumers will always continue to support you)...is it really smart to sell out Dubya too (Left Coaster)? He's all you've got left!

This is some serious self-loathing right
here (Pandagon).

Poor Kenny Boy Lay. He with a broken heart after gypping thousands of people out of their retirement money and laughing about it. More than Peggy can say about all those worthless
black people in New Orleans (Attaturk).

Apparently the single
greatest sign of capitalism ever--the shopping mall--is liberal (Alicublog).

If you pretend like it's
not a problem (AMERICAblog), not only does it not exist, but it also keeps you from feeling all icky inside when you pretend to be against it. And speaking of icky (Billmon)...and speaking of pretending a problem doesn't exist (Echidne)...

Avedon
points me to Mercury Rising, which points me to the exact time of death for democracy in Mexico. Actually, looking at their big democratic idol to the North, I guess this would be their time of birth for "democracy"...now they're playing like the big boys play. Though maybe we can actually learn something from some of them (Susie)...

You know, one of the signs that you're an alcoholic is you forget meeting and interacting with lots of people (Great Society)...possibly while drunk. Just sayin'.

My own take on libertarians (brought on by Chris at BooMan and The Editors) has always been that, even though they're closer to being correct half the time, they're actually worse than conservatives/Republicans a lot of the time because at least conservatives have a dog in the fight. Some of the libertarians I know just say they're libertarian because they want to seem like they're smarter than everybody else...too smart for politics, actually. I think The Editors' experiment should prove that quite nicely. Whenever asked, they'll bitch and whine about how Republicans are too stupid to run the government, and then fall in line when nobody's looking.

Dana Blankenhorn has a
really nice summary of cultural shifts and "generational failures". It's so nice, in fact, that I won't even bother trying to be snarky. Just read it. And then read Greenwald's take on those who love to go on the invasive and creepy offensive...

And after you're done reading all that, read
this: Debate Link comes through again in posting about something I would have otherwise missed...who actually "plays the victim" in comparison to who's actually the victim.

Existentialist Cowboy has a
nice piece on the Declaration of Independence. Oh, how far we've come. Lots of good writing from the blogs this week...they're rendering me almost snarkless.

Ahh, the hard-nosed, tough, invasive questions from that bastion of journalism,
Larry King (First Draft).

Jim Talent learns, if you can't beat 'em,
join 'em (Fired Up! Missouri).

I've put a moratorium on Adam's Apple Coulter posts, but since Wolcott's
mentioning her/him, I'll consider this a one-time-only exception.

I live in a town that has built almost too many parks while allowing the too-small-for-the-quickly-growing-city roads to deteriorate horribly, but this
Mannion post still makes me mad. Just goes to show that if you oppose something for motives you know won't succeed, just make up a lie and repeat it long enough (in this case, "$650,000 is too much to spend!"), and it'll catch fire.

Gotta disagree (partially) to the Far in Lefarkins on
this post. Jersey Girl did suck, and Clerks II is an obvious retreat into something that he knows will sell lots of tickets (especially since he said repeatedly in the past that there would never be a Clerks sequel and that he was done writing Jay & Bob movies), but I have to defend Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, and (to some extent, anyway) Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Especially Dogma. Smith may be a one-trick pony when it comes to creating characters, but he's really good at that trick, and he inserts a lot of smart dialogue into his dick and fart jokes.

And finally, Upyernoz
proves (via Joe McCabe and superdickery) that Superman had a dark side.
