Weather, Water, Energy 11-09-06

Quick hits before Veterans Day:

  • It would be nice if economists and rational choice theorists actually lived in a world with power. They might have figured into their vouchers and emissions trading that power would determine the limits that get set on emissions, not what's needed to deal with global warming.
  • German Chancellor Merkel is taking the EU's presidency and calling out Bush on global warming.
  • Let's take a developing country needing energy and convince them to go nuclear . . . even if the country is on a major earthquake zone. Now you're talking.
  • Remember the Long Island flooding in "An Inconvenient Truth"? Silly? Well, NYC is planning huge storm-surge barriers now.
  • A new report says the world might oughtta spend a little more time on ethical considerations as it negotiates its global warming strategy.
  • Some folks who might finally be ready to take their obligation to keep God's creation seriously have been taking the new Canadian version of "Inconvenient" seriously.
  • Maybe they'll talk in terms of "water apartheid."
  • And maybe that the way the rich part of the world is helping the poor part facing global warming is "woefully inadequate." A little understatement, but it's a start.
