Weather, Water, Energy 10-07-06

A smart move that should have been done, like, 25 years ago. The European Commission has proposed a global risk capital fund to get private investment into renewable energy in poor nations going. Note, however, the word "proposed." . . . I mentioned the other day how global warming and trout declines might spur fisherpeople (fishers?) into action (actually, I said "conservatives" so I apologize to all non-conservative fisherpeople . . . fishers). Well, what about wine lovers? When things warm up, grapes move north apparently. Good news to areas not known for wine, but for those that are . . . ? Au revoir? . . . This AP article actually does a nice job in calling BS on the Busheviks and their "efforts" to control greenhouse gases through, cough, voluntary controls. Seems they don't really know if the companies saying they're doing things are really doing them and the way it's all counted is bogus, anyway. It also discusses carbon market caps, state efforts to trump federal nonsense, and yet another memorable moronic quote from Sen. Inhofe (REPUB-OK). Seriously, pray for that man's long life so we can all float by his house and laugh at him in 20 years. . . . Noted sociobiologist and ant fetishist E.O. Wilson was in MT the other day letting folks know that we may whack half the world's species by 2100 through human actions including global warming. . . . And, as we get ready to consider alternative energies and the nuke boys start rolling out their propaganda again, have this story ready for them and ask why we shouldn't still expect more cancers from more nuclear power plant accidents (or attacks) in their wonderful future. And remember how they said this couldn't really happen then, also.
