Weather, Water, Energy 10-23-06

So many stories, so little time today. So let's just give you the links and let you peruse at your pleasure:

  • Canadian conservatives had the choice of following the sense of their British Anglo brethren or the idiocy of their American Anglo ones. They chose the wrong one.
  • A U of CO study bringing 9 climate models together predicts more heat, drought, rain, and other extreme weather this century. (This TX Tech study predicts the same.)
  • Europe's worst energy wasters? The British. (What is it about Anglos? And start leaving appliances off "stand-by.")
  • Oh, and the British have also wasted most of their North Sea oil and gas reserves.
  • Climate change threatening water supplies worldwide but world leaders still at "rhetoric" stage, not action.
  • Spain (clearly not Anglo) is launching Europe's largest (solar energy) thermo-electric plant.
  • A Conference Board survey of 92 companies finds about 75% are actively measuring their "carbon footprint" (only half have plans to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, though).
  • Nuclear power coming back, but the waste problem is still a problem.
  • Drought will cut electric power generation from MO River dams 40% this year, according to the US Army Corps of Engineers.
  • NE's being a bad neighbor on water agreements, and KS wants it stopped and to be paid what it's owed. And they mean it, mister.
