We're No. 1!!!

As you deal with the post below on the global warming future, take heart in knowing that we in the US at least lead in the tools necessary to confront it and all the other problems down the line. Oh, wait. We don't, as this post from Ian Welsh makes clear. We don't even beat South Korea on important things anymore. Here's his money quote:

We are backwards - we do not have the most advanced trains in the world; we do not make the best cars in the world; we do not make the best consumer electronics in the world; we do not have the most advanced internet backbone; we do not have the best wireless network; we are not the best at any form of renewable energy; at this point you are only a leader in software, and huge amounts of that is being offshored and outsourced; you are teaching our competitors how to beat you in that, and paying them to learn, all for a couple extra short term cents profit on the dollar.
