It's a Link Roundup, Sideshow style!

Here are a bunch of links about which I didn't have to much to say, but I felt they deserved posting anyway...

Abstinence:
The New LSD? The new counterculture thinks so.

I've been avoiding commenting on
this because it pisses me off too much. There are plenty of rants in the blogosphere that are more coherent than anything I'd be able to create. Like this, for example, from Billmon...

Ugly? That doesn't even begin to cover it. Dick Cheney is ugly. The Pentagon is ugly. An Abrams tank is ugly. Executing helpless women and children while they're huddled on the floor, praying to their God, is a war crime committed by terrorists.
And of course, when the left gets justifiably outraged, the right just gets outraged and blames the left. And as always, that distracts the media like a catnip toy to a kitten.

Maybe the
Republican revolution was a good thing? From the comments...

That weird Republican coalition is going to come totally undone over this one. Turns out there wasn't nearly as much consensus on abortion as the gullible rubes of the religious faction were led to believe. After 25 years, they're finally realizing they've been used. When they start to vent their frustration over this, it's not going to be pretty.

Realizing just how insane their legislative stances are could definitely be a positive by-product of the Republicans holding control of everything. Of course, it's up to the Democrats to actually take advantage of it...

Demosthenes challenges Warren Kinsella, who responds in the comments with "Oh yeah? Are you too chicken to use your real name??" Shorter Kinsella: "You have a point I can't respond to, so I have to distract from your argument somehow." Okay, that wasn't shorter...just translated.

Not quite Dukakis in the tank, but close. Then again...

Here's a good roundup of posts on the "The New York Times was warned that something big was coming, but they decided not to say anything just in case they were wrong" episode.

Carol brings up a good point in regard to this Skippy post...what did happen to W in the Guard that makes him hate the Guard so much?

Who wants to do things legally when breaking the law is so much fun (h/t Booman)? BREAKIN' THE LAW...BREAKIN' THE LAW...

Guest blogging for Echidne, hybrid wonders about a world where women's bodies aren't considered any different than men's (and are offered the same protection)...

While I love Stephen Colbert, The Daily Show still gets my vote.

An open letter to Al Gore (h/t Susie). As I've said before, the thought of Gore running makes me really, really nervous because of the possible return of Al Gore Version.2000, but looking at the other potential candidates just makes me that much more nervous.

And finally, I wish he'd just never talk in public. At this point, it just makes me sad.
